My thoughts on the Sony PS4 Event

ps4530sign-1

On February 20th Sony unveiled there next, next generation console the PlayStation 4. And although they didn’t actually show the PS4 we did get to see the duel shock 4, same really impressive game previews and a lot of talk of what they would like to do someday. So here is my take ….

Sony knows exactly what its doing this time around, they have moved away from the hard to program for cell processor and over to a more PC, X86 architecture witch is much better for third party programmers. They realize that we are in a far different word then it was when the PS3 came out. We are more social, connected and online more offend, we play differently and use game consoles in different ways. We are a more evolved gamer, and that being said i really hope that Sony can live up to some of the stuff they showed. Stuff like the ability to stream PS1, PS2 and PS3 games to your PS4, and hopefully they do it for a subscription fee and not make us pay for each game. Stuff like being able to play your PS4 games in any room via your PS Vita, now you can use the rest room and never have to leave your game, provided you shell out the cash for a Vita that is. And stuff like being able to share your game experience with your friends and even have your friends take over your game witch i don’t really see ever happening but a good ideal none the less. And all though we didn’t get to see the actually system and only seen very little actually game play this time around I’m sure this is to add to the excitement for E3 in June where Sony will have the real reveal of the PS4 and we will no doubt see the actual system, a lot more games and specs and maybe even a price?

This next next generation is looking promising so far, and with Microsoft getting ready to announce there entry it stands to get even better ….

Microsoft’s Alex Garden said in a press release. “Over time, as we integrate VideoSurf’s technology into our system, we are excited about the potential to have content tagged in real time to increase the speed and relevance of the search results.” VideoSurf’s back-end technology “‘sees’ frames inside videos,” an ability that Microsoft appears to want to couple with the integrated Bing voice search coming to Xbox 360.

Gears 3 sold over 3 million, Campaign DLC will have different cast

Microsoft announced this morning that Gears of War 3 surpassed three million sales during its first week at retail. The publisher also reveled in this small window of opportunity to say that Gears 3, in just one week, “has already grossed more than any 2011 video game to date.” That’s a record it’ll be lucky to hold past November 8 when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 drops.

The success of the latest sequel also pushes the Gears of War franchise over the billion dollar mark in lifetime sales, Microsoft claims. It is also the only Xbox 360-exclusive franchise to reach this milestone after being introduced during the current console generation — ruling out the longer-running Halo for that ultra-specific sales commendation.

About upcoming Gears of War 3 campaign DLC, designer Cliff Bleszinski shared some additional details, explaining that the story won’t be focused on the game’s core cast.

And though it won’t be based on the Gears of War graphic novels either, former Stranded-turned-COG Michael Barrick will appear.

“No, it won’t be the graphic novel, but it will have all new campaign content that doesn’t have Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird in it,” Bleszinski wrote. “Expect Barrick and more…”
