Bionic Eyes Could Change Gaming

What if instead of having your television cluttered with interface elements while playing an FPS, you could have the HUD displayed directly on your eye? This is one of the possible applications of the bionic eye created by engineers at the University of Washington, which utilizes microscopic manufacturing techniques to contact lenses imprinted with electronic circuits and lights. While the current prototype has yet to light up and a full display version is still years away, the possibilities for such a device are staggering. From the press release:

There are many possible uses for virtual displays. Drivers or pilots could see a vehicle’s speed projected onto the windshield. Video-game companies could use the contact lenses to completely immerse players in a virtual world without restricting their range of motion. And for communications, people on the go could surf the Internet on a midair virtual display screen that only they would be able to see.

Not only would the gaming applications be amazing, but imagine a world where porn is just a blink away! Now that’s some real innovation right there.

Rumor: DMC4 demo releasing January 31st

Over on both deceiverdeceived.com and betrayerbetrayed.com (two official DMC4 websites) IGN spotted a placeholder graphic for a DMC4 downloadable widget that lists a specific release date for the demo. The placeholder graphic states that the DMC4 online demo will be released to the XBLM on January 31st. Plain as English, simple as black and white. The only question mark here is the fact that this is simply a placeholder graphic for the widget and when the widget is downloaded, it makes no mention of the demo’s release date. So, either we have confirmation of a January 31st release or a graphic artist just made up some news and random dates for a website graphic. Puzzling stuff.

Old school Bionic Commando headed to XBLA

It seems the latest issue of Famitsu (according to IGN) has confirmed that a remake of the original Bionic Commando is on its way to Xbox Live Arcade. Entitled Bionic Commando: Master D Revival Plan, the game will feature 3D graphics but retain the classic feel. In other words it sounds like the game will utilize 3D characters and background, but restrict gameplay to 2D, much like the Prince of Persia remake already available on XBLA. The game is also expected to include a co-op mode and will include new areas. There are plans to tie the Xbox Live Arcade remake in with the upcoming retail title as well. Let’s hope that doesn’t mean Capcom will be soiling our 2D memories with dreadlocks. The remake is scheduled to arrive this spring in Japan.

The films are to go on sale Friday, January 18 for the attractive price of 160 Microsoft Points (about $2) each. Keep in mind that these are being offered as permanent downloads, not rentals.
